The 80th Annual Oscars:
The Red Carpet Rolls into Your House on Sunday!
I feel that it's only fitting to do a small feature on the 80th Annual Oscars -- my affinity for movies compels me to do so. After all, without the glory of
movies gracing my home theater, what good would it be? Sure, there's other forms of entertainment. But there's not much more that bring joy and excitement
to my eyes and ears than a good movie...and I've got the DVD collection to prove it! By the way, if you're a DVD enthusiast like me, you may consider building
a "Best Picture Winner" topical subset within your collection. This is something that I've been trying to do.80 years of Oscars awards...what a long run. So many great movies, so many memories. Personally, for this year's Oscars I'm pulling for a couple of movies that are two of my favorites from the past year: Transformers and Ratatouille. The Visual Effects category is one of my favorite at the Oscars, and stacked with three awesome movies. It's more or less a toss up, but I'll have to give my allegiance to Transformers (sorry to the other nominees, it's just something that I've grown up with and love). Pixar and Disney put together yet another awesome animated feature, and I expect they'll take home the trophy this year for Best Animated Feature. Regardless, it's going to be another intriguing year at the Oscars!
It's a priviledge that I now have the opportunity to share with others some of the great achievements in film making. This is my small tribute to the Oscars. You can tune in on TV to see the awards show (5:00 PM PT or 8:00 PM ET) or you can tunein here to see live updates on our site. We've added the official Oscar widget to this page so you can see video clips, play some trivia, or see the winner's as they're announced. The winners will be bolded in the Oscars nominee list below as the awards are presented.
